404-495-7328 PSC Libertarian Candidate MacGregor endorses Chuck Eaton for Commission in December 5 Runoff
Says Eaton closest to market-based solutions for state's energy needs
(Atlanta, GA, November 15, 2006…) The Libertarian candidate for the Georgia Public Service Commission has endorsed Republican Chuck Eaton in the upcoming December 5 statewide runoff.
Dr. Paul R. MacGregor, the Libertarian Party's nominee, said his endorsement is based on Eaton's belief in more market focused solutions to the state's energy needs. "Chuck Eaton fully understands and generally supports the kind of market-oriented energy conservation solutions that I talked about in my campaign," said MacGregor. "Chuck Eaton would be a much better addition to the Public Service Commission."
Eaton, who campaigned on bringing Georgia's energy costs back under the national average, says MacGregor's ideas have definite merit. "According to the U.S. Department of Energy, Georgians now pay 51 percent more than the national average for natural gas compared to 35 percent below the national average when David Burgess joined the PSC," Eaton said. "While I am focused on getting our energy prices back in line with the rest of the country, Paul's ideas will help Georgian's save money now and in the future."
During his campaign, MacGregor pushed ideas like tradable energy tax credits for businesses and other market-based energy conservation solutions that he believes the PSC should be pushing. "While we aren't in total agreement, Chuck fully supports a market-oriented approach both to energy conservation and energy production," MacGregor said.
"I am deeply gratified by Paul MacGregor's endorsement," said Eaton. "He knows we need a change on the Public Service Commission."
"As fossil fuels become more scarce, conservation will need to be a key component of Georgia's energy strategy," Eaton said. "Dr. MacGregor's idea to encourage conservation with a market based approach has a lot of merit."
According to Eaton, MacGregor's quest to make Georgia a more energy efficient state so overall energy consumption and costs decline is definitely something the PSC should encourage.
Eaton faces PSC incumbent David Burgess in a December 5, 2006 runoff for the metro Atlanta position on the Georgia Public Service Commission.
