Eaton Wins Straw Poll with 2 to 1 Margin

ATLANTA, GA—Public Service Commission candidate Chuck Eaton swept to a convincing win in the first pre-primary test of this year's election.

Collecting more than 67% of the votes in a straw poll of almost 400 conservative Republican activists gathered in Gwinnett County Saturday, Eaton said he was gratified by the strong support he received from the area's conservative leaders.

The poll, conducted by the GOP Capitol Political Action Committee, was the first major test of Republican candidate strength among the party's base voters.

Gathered at a symposium to discuss important issues ranging from the Fair Tax to Illegal Immigration, participants included Governor Sonny Perdue and other statewide Republican candidates.

During his address to the Republican crowd, Eaton outlined his 3-point plan to reduce Georgia's soaring energy costs. He also discussed the tremendous opportunity the Georgia GOP has in the chance to win many of the statewide offices controlled by entrenched Democrats.

Eaton made a clear case as to why he is the best-qualified candidate to beat incumbent Democrat David Burgess in the General Election.

Each attendee was allowed to cast one electronic ballot. Eaton won the PSC ballot with 67.7% of the vote. The vote totals were as follows: Chuck Eaton 170 votes and Chuck's opponent receiving 81 votes.

After the straw poll Eaton stated, "I have a long history in managing Republican political campaigns and growing the Georgia GOP. Conservative activists across our State know I have the experience to beat a statewide incumbent Democrat. While the most important vote will be in the upcoming Republican Primary, it's encouraging to know I have the support of many of the GOP stalwarts."
